Ashakiran, Centre for the Care of Children with Disabilities was inaugurated on March 21, 2017 by the then Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Abraham Viruthukulangara, of the Archdiocese of Nagpur. It began as an extension of our activities at Surlakhapa and Harrai for the welfare of the persons with disabilities. Frs. Swami Sadanand and Pauly Thekkan have played a very pivotal role in the realization of this dream of the Province. The tireless efforts and contributions of Fr. Pauly Thekkan through his benefactors have been the back bone of this project, especially in building up the basic amenities. Ashakiran provides boarding facilities to about 30 students who have physical disabilities and they daily attend Sant Chavara National Academy with the normal students. Other than this, it also provides day schooling facilities to about 40 children with intellectual disabilities. The objective of the Centre is to enable the persons with disabilities, especially children with disabilities, to become self reliant and contributing members of the family and the community.
